Reflections by William Fernandez

I was truly impressed by Chuck's compassion and intellect, a powerful combination of attributes that touched me as a budding bike advocate.

I met Chuck at an Arroyofest meeting at Oxy. Afterward as I rode off on my recumbent Chuck caught up to me and we began talking about biking and life's vicissitudes.

What I truly admired about Chuck, besides his obvious passion for the environment was his earthy unpretentious character. Not until his death did I realize how truly brilliant he was since he never saw the need to blow his own horn and brag about his many accomplishments. Through his death I feel compelled to pursue environmental issues more vigorously understanding his life commitment to the cause and compelling me to do the same.

Thanks Chuck for the inspiration, even though we only met a handful of times you have touched me deeply allowing me to see more clearly my life's mission. It is no wonder that you literally and figuratively have given sight to others. I am but one soul that has been profoundly touched by your vision and compassion. May you rest in peace.
