In his all too short life, Charles K. "Chuck" Witham touched many
lives in many ways - the breadth and depth of which became apparent
only after his untimely death in August, 2002. Chuck was known to many as a great friend. To others as a great guy. His family knew him as a great son and brother. But what became apparent was that he had become a great man - giving to his friends and family, caring for the environment, living his convictions, pursuing his visions and living life to the fullest. Even in death, Chuck was able to give to others as an organ donor. A 38-year-old father of two suffering from viral cardiomyopathy received his heart. A 57-year-old grandmother received his lung. A retired community college educator terminally ill with liver cancer received his liver. A 31-year-old man whose diabetes had cause kidney failure received his pancreas and one kidney. A 12-year-old boy who loves baseball, video games and swimming received the other kidney. This website, full of pictures, stories, and memories, has been established to allow those who knew and loved him, to know him better, and allow those not yet fortunate enough to know him, to do so. Please enjoy the stories and photos. If you have some of your own you would like to share, please do so. At a memorial service in Pasadena shortly after Chuck's death, friends, family and colleagues from around the country gathered to pay tribute by sharing their experiences - some funny, some touching, some irreverent - of this unique and wonderful individual. A video tape is available on request. |
