Thursday Evening Happy Hour

We started Happy Hours early this year, as the first one was actually in March. So, Thursday Evening Happy hours are already underway. Every week is a bring your own food and beverages event starting at 5 pm or so. A great time to relax, meet with friends, catch up on the latest Holiday Point news (and gossip) and discuss plans for the weekend's activities.

May 22nd
Candlewood Lake Cleanup

This annual event in conjunction with the Candlewood Lake Authority seeks volunteers to help to clean up the shorline of the lake in preparation for the summer season. Holiday Point has traditionally send a delegation to go out on a boat and assist with the clean up. This year Ed H. will be piloting a boat and members are encouraged to join in on the effort.

Paul and Bernie Arrive!

Not only will it be Memorial Day weekend, but Paul and Bernie will be arriving for their summer stay at Holiday Point, which for is marks the "official" start of the summer season.

HPA Community Tag Sale and Fundraiser
Once again we will be holding our Annual Tag Sale / Fundraiser at the beach. Holiday Point members can either set up a table (for a small fee) or contribute items to the community table as a donation to the fundraiser portion of the event. Please contact Ro D. or Phyllis S. for details.

June 13th
Private Party at the Beach
On this particular day, there will be two private parties taking place at the beach. Although the beach is still open to members, your consideration and neighborly respect for the hosts and their guests would be greatly appreciated.

June 14th
Boy Scouts / Sherman Veterans
Flag Day Celebration (5:00 pm)

This is the third year that Holiday Point has hosted this very special celebration of flag day. Scouts at all levels gather to perform the annual Americal Flag Retirement Ceremony, at which flags which have been retired are respectfully burned according to established ceremonies and practices. If you have not had the opportunity to experience this special part of our heritage, make it a point to do so. For more information, please contact Ernie K.

July 4th
9th Annual Margarita Night/Chili Cook-off and July 4th Celebration

This continues to be one of our most popular evening beach parties of the summer. Once again this year, we have combined the Chili Cook-off/Margarita Night with our annual Forth of July celebration! It's gonna be Mexican food and drink mega-party!!! Come along and continue the tradition!. Please bring a Mexican dish (appetizer, entree and/or dessert), entries into the chili cook-off are strongly encouraged - and bring along beverages to share - especially your favorite Margarita recipe or cervesas. July 10th
Holiday Point Annual Meeting

This is your opportunity to participate in the election of officers and discuss topics important to all community members. Please plan to attend! The meeting will begin promptly at 10:00 am.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Annual Meeting will be held this year in the SHERMAN SENIOR CENTER, across the street from the Old Store!

July 17th
Bazillionth Annual Holiday Point Annual Picnic

Join in on the biggest event of the Holiday Point season. All Holiday Point members and their families are welcome to attend. Please contribute a side dish. A small fee to offset cost will be collected.

Rain date will be July 18th.

July 22nd
Sherman Senior's Picnic

This has also become an annual event for Holiday Point. Our beach plays host to the seniors from the Sherman Rennissance Center for an afternoon picnic. They very much look forward to the chance to enjoy the beautiful views and atmosphere at our beach.

July 24th
Private Party at the beach

The Holiday Point Beach has been reserved for a private party (Norm L's. Family Reunion) for most of the day and evening. HP members are still able to use the beach and facilities, but please be respectful of our friends and guests attending this party.

August 7th
Annual Sherman Fireman's Ball

This is the Sherman Social Event of the Year. Join your friends and become part of the Holiday Point contingent at 'the Ball'. Music, dancing, door prizes and the best roast beef in town!

August 14th
8th Annual Holiday Point Wine Tasting

This party (held with the sponsorship of the Sherman Spirit Shop) will be an opportunity to sample some great wines, have some great food and enjoy the company of your neighbors at the beach. It has been a huge success for the past six years and promises to be even better this year. There will be a donation required to attend this event. Attendance is also limited, so register early by contacting Ro D.!

August 21st
The 2010 Candlewood Lake Dragon Boat Races

Holiday Point will be fielding a team once again, to compete for the second year in the Candlewood Lake Dragon Boat Races being held at Lynn Deming Park in New Milford. Last year, this evenr was great fun for participants and spectators alike and Holiday Point proved to be highly competitive, in spite of the fact that we had the most "senior" crew in the competition. A fund raiser for the Candlewood Lake Authority, all members are encouraged to come to the event to cheer their "home team" on to victory!

September is the last month that we officially celebrate Thursday evening happy hours on the beach. If you haven't become a regular attendee at these events, this month is your last chance! This is a bring your own food and beverages event. A great time to relax, meet with friends, catch up on the latest Holiday Point news (and gossip) and discuss plans for the weekend's activities.

September 4th
7th Annual Lobster Festival

Again last year, a record number of lobsters met their fate at the hands of our world famous lobster chefs... well they tasted good enough to have been cooked by famous chefs! Once again we will host the lobster dinner at the beach (please being along an appitizer, side dish or dessert to share). Attendees should place their lobster orders in advance with Ed H., so they can be purchased (at cost). This is another great party for the community and a terrific way to celebrate the end of the summer season on the beach.


October

October 17th
Shut down the water system

Shutting down the water system marks the unofficial end of the Holiday Point season. Please volunteer to assist in this annual maintenance task. Rain date: Oct. 18th.
