August 2008...

It was a warm Saturday morning when Jerome and Marco, Mr. Diamond's grandsons who were visiting Holiday Point from France, went down to the beach to play. When they arrived, they notice that the sand on the beach seemed to have unusual track marks in it . . like something had been covered up or raked . . . kind of like when someone cleans up after hitting a golf ball into a sand trap.

So they started digging around to see if there was anything there . . . and to their surprise . .

SOMETHING WAS INDEED THERE!!

They uncovered a large green trash bag buried in the sand on the beach!

Had someone thought this was a good way to dispose of their garbage???

Was there something scary buried there???

One never knows what someone would bury in a big green trash bag . . . should it be opened or should the police be called?

The boys very carefully opened the bag and at first they were disappointed. It seemed to be full of wood shavings . . .

BUT WAIT

. . . there was something more . . what could it be?

At first there was a bit of a sparkle like light reflecting off of something shiny . . and then there was . . . an arm??? and a head???? And as they carefully reached in and grabbed hold . . anticipation getting the best of them, with one big heave . . . out it came and . . .

HOLY MAKEREL!!!!
IT WAS A STATUE . . .
OF SOME KIND OF
HINDU GODDESS
or something . . .

It was AMAZING! . . . sitting in the lotus yoga position . . with small jewels all around and it had this strange iridescent color . . that changed depending on the angle of the light hitting it . . .

The question still lingered, “What was a fortune cookie doing stuffed in a hole in the bottom of the statue of a Hindu goddess . . buried in the sand at Holiday Point Beach?!?!?!!?!”

Suddenly, everyone realized that they hadn't read the fortune . . maybe it would contain a funny saying, or a prediction of wealth or happiness, maybe it had the next set of winning lottery numbers! More importantly, maybe it would provide some clue as to what was going on . . .

As it turned out . . . this was obviously not a normal fortune cookie . . and not a normal fortune . . . all that was on the slip of paper that was otherwise just like any other fortune cookie fortune was a website address . . .

www.cmmp.com/interpolealert

INTERPOLE ALERT!?!?!?!?!?

Isn't Interpole that international police agency that hunts for criminals and solves crimes from all over the world?????

YIKES!!! WAS THIS STATUE SOMEHOW CONNECTED WITH INTERNATIONAL POLICE MATTERS?????

Both the kids and adults were so excited that they couldn't wait to clean up the trash bag and wood shavings on the beach, so they left a note for anyone who might come along, explaining what happened and letting everyone know that they had gone back to their house to see just what this website address might tell them about the mysterious statue and the strange circumstances that would have resulted in it's being buried on the beach here at Holiday Point.

They all ran home and got onto their granddad’s computer . . . carefully Jerome typed in the website address exactly as it appeared on the fortune . . .

. . . . and after a few moments . . . there it was . . .

The boys carefully dug it up under the supervision of their dad and granddad. Clearly something was inside of it . . . it was heavy and quite full . . . with something soft in some places and hard in others. Once all of the sand around it was removed, they grabbed the end of the bag and dragged it across the sand over near the grass where their dad and granddad were looking on.

The first thing that caught their interest was a string tied around the top of the bag with what looked to be a piece of jade or some other precious stone . . . like a string necklace had been used to secure the opening in the bag. Who would use a necklace with a valuable piece of carved Jade to tie a garbage bag?

It was becoming apparent that this probably wasn’t someone’s trash.

They picked it up to admire it and immediately noticed something else . . on the bottom ... it looked like there was a piece of duct tape holding something in a hole in the bottom.!!!

What was this strange statue???
Where did it come from???
How did it come to be buried at
Holiday Point Beach?????

So many questions . . . so few answers . . .

Ever so carefully, Jerome peeled away the duct tape to reveal . . . . A FORTUNE COOKIE?!?!?!?!

Was this some kind of a joke????

Nope . . . no joke . . a fortune cookie . . . wrapped in plastic and stuffed in the hole in the bottom of the statue of the beautiful Hindu goddess . . .

STRANGER THAN TRUTH!!!!!

Well . . everyone there sat for a moment to think about what to do next, but it seemed pretty obvious to Marco what should be done, so he took the cookie out of the plastic bag it was in and cracked it open and ate it!

IT COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAP . . .
COULD HAVE BEEN POISONED . . .
OR DRUGGED OR SOMETHING!!!!

But, Marco did in fact eat it and sure enough it was a real fortune cookie, just like the kind that come from Chinese restaurants . . . and it didn’t seem to harm him at all. Whew!

. . . . . . . . . WOW!

WOW! indeed . . .

The Hah Pei gang . . from China . . had stolen the statue of Havashpaprikash, which contained the Kashmiri Diamond (must have been where the fortune cookie was), from an Indian temple and managed to escape to the United States and apparently hidden the statue right here on Holiday Point Beach!

But where was the diamond?
Could it be nearby too?

The alert said that the finder of the statue should call a specific phone number, so Jerome did. It was a kind of strange phone call . . . because they didn’t get much information other than to meet Agent Ledgewood down at Holiday Point beach later that day.

Everyone wondered who Agent Ledgewood was and how his phone number got attached to an Interpole Alert that was connected to a fortune cookie hidden in the base of a statue stolen by a Chinese crime gang.

Some kids might be a little scared of getting involved in such intrigue, but Jerome and Marco were ready to go . . and back to the beach they went to clean up the mess they left behind, and to tell the other kids what had transpired that fateful morning. . .

The Holiday Point kids started gathering at the beach, and Jerome and Marco told them what had happened. They all even went back to Mr. Diamond’s house to check out the website themselves, and to get a hard copy of the Interpole Alert so that they could read it more carefully to make sure they didn’t miss any details.

There didn't seem to be much alternative other than to go back down to he beach and await the arrival of the mysterious Special Agent Ledgewood. Everyone had so many questions and also so many concerns. Was this all real or just some kind of joke? . . . Was there really an Agent Ledgewood ... and was he part of Interpole or part of the Hah Pei Gant??? . . . When would he arrive to tell them what to do next???

After waiting for what seemed to be ...

F O R E V E R

... a strange boat approached Pier 1. It wasn't that the boat was so strange ... in fact no one would have even noticed it under any other circumstance ... but on this strange day ... with the strange events that had already transpired on this strange morning ...

... a boat with a man all dressed in black, wearing a fedora hat and carrying what appeared to be a wooden briefcase ... well ...

that caught
everyone's attention!

The boat slowly glided up to the dock and the strange man stepped out and immediately walked over to the assembled group of kids and introduced himself as ...

Special Agent Ledgewood from INTERPOLE!

Jumpin' Jupiter!!! . . .
THIS WAS THE REAL THING!!!!!
